Best for Bagels, and a deep slot that lets you stand slices on end
Watch out for The exterior gets very hot, and it is the widest body here at nearly 17 inches
Independently measured. Source: America's Test Kitchen, toaster review.
The measured numbers are 10 inches long and 1.5 inches wide, with depth unpublished. Ten inches is the bar rather than a comfortable clearance, and in practice two slices of a large sandwich loaf will not sit side by side without being turned on end. The slot is deep enough that standing them that way still toasts them corner to corner, which is a workable answer but not the one the shape is supposed to give you.
Bagels are where it does well, and it is quick, reaching medium toast in 1 min 50 sec.
Two practical warnings. The exterior runs hot enough to be worth keeping clear of, and at 16.75 inches wide this is the largest footprint in the dataset. Measure the run of counter between your outlet and the wall before ordering.
Getting the shade you want has been found to take more than one attempt more often than it should, so budget for a second cycle rather than expecting the dial to land it.
What this slot takes
Judged on length alone, against the slot figure on record. Width and depth decide whether a thick or tall slice clears, and where those are blank we cannot answer for them.
- Sandwich slice4.5″ Fits A standard supermarket slice, laid flat.
- Two slices, side by side9.5″ Fits The reason the shape exists. Needs about 10 inches with room to load.
- Bagel half4.5″ Fits Length is easy. Bagels fail on width, not length.
- Sourdough round slice8″ Fits A slice off a large boule, cut across the widest point.
- Bakery batard slice10.5″ Too short The slice that defeats almost everything on the market.
